She first came to me as a dream,

then a shadow,

then a small figure in the distance.

Her familiarity penetrated my mind

but I do not think I ever realized

quite why my eyes stung

and my mouth dried.

She offered me a sip of water

and I refused with a stern face

and a shake of my head

but she refused to relent.

I sipped the water

from her glass tainted with fingerprints

and the world spun around me.

Black dots covered the world

until I felt at peace with it,

and I drifted into my dreams

where I met her once again.
