Ancient ruins

and severed heads;

who are we to question

the reasons behind the dead?

We think we’re gods

but we think no differently from frogs,

we cry and smile

and sometimes lie;

our ego inflates

but doesn’t determine our fate-

snakes and gold,

the night sky

and the planet below;

the soil in the forest

makes things grow

yet through it all

the river flows.
