"a wish"

Under the fluorescent lights

and beige ceiling

I lie

and make a wish;

the wish the make a difference,

to help the ones who need it,

to do

Something

but the stars evoke a pressure on my chest

that is

uncomfortable

and the natural lights

invite me to ask a question:

can I really do this

when I am just

a girl

and the world is so much

bigger?

They refuse to speak to me in words

but the moonlit garden and the water that still rushes

tells me that

maybe

this isn’t a waste,

maybe nothing is for nothing.
